Phonak hearing devices show up in more of our fittings than any other brand, and patients reasonably want to know whether that is a clinical judgment or a supply-closet habit. Fair question. The honest answer is that Phonak solves two problems better than most of the field. Those two problems happen to be the ones patients raise most. Where they are not your problems, another brand is the better fit, and our providers will say so.
What Phonak Hearing Devices Do Differently
Two things separate this line, and both are worth understanding before you sit down for a fitting.
- Universal Bluetooth. The ERA chip pairs with phones, tablets and laptops whatever the operating system. Hands-free calling sends your voice out through the hearing aids, and an iPhone and a Windows laptop can both stay connected at once.
- Dedicated speech-in-noise processing. The EON Sphere family runs a second chip, HYPERSONIC, alongside ERA. Its only job is separating a voice from the room around it.
- Roger Direct. Remote microphone systems connect to the hearing aids without an extra receiver worn on the body.
- Auracast readiness. Venues that broadcast audio straight to hearing devices are beginning to appear. The current platform is built to receive it.
None of that is unique to Phonak in isolation. The combination, at the tiers we fit, is what keeps it at the front of the recommendation.

Every model above is rechargeable, rated IP68, and fitted across a mild to severe range. The choice comes down to where your hearing gives out rather than to a number on a box.
One line in that table deserves more attention than it usually gets. CROS pairing appears on the EON R 90 and nowhere else in the range we fit. If you hear well on one side and poorly on the other, that single row decides your device, and it is worth reading what a CROS hearing aid does before your appointment.
Where Phonak Hearing Devices Are Not the Right Answer
This is the part most brand pages leave out. Phonak is not the default for every ear, and a few situations point elsewhere.
- You want something no one can see. Lyric sits deep in the canal and is worn continuously, which is a different proposition entirely.
- You want a custom in-the-ear device with no fitting appointment for the shell. The Oticon Zeal line is built around that.
- You want a telecoil. The EON models we fit do not list one, so a looped venue is a different conversation.
- You have worn another brand happily for years. Familiarity with a sound signature is a real clinical factor, and switching is not free.
- You need a power fitting beyond the severe range. The EON models we carry are fitted mild to severe, so a profound loss is a separate conversation with your provider.

What Changed When Phonak Moved to EON
The platform change in August 2026 is recent enough that most patients have not seen it, and it matters if you were fitted in the last three years.
- Audéo Sphere Infinio became Audéo EON Sphere. Same two-chip idea, newer processing.
- Audéo R Infinio became Audéo EON R. One chip, the full connectivity set.
- Audéo Lumity now sits two generations back. It still works and it still gets serviced.
- Auracast readiness arrived across the platform. Older Phonak devices will not receive venue broadcasts.
A platform change is not a recall and it is not a deadline. If your current Phonak devices are doing their job, keeping them is a reasonable answer, and any of our providers will tell you so rather than pushing an upgrade you do not need.
The question worth asking is narrower. Has your hearing changed since the last fitting, or has your life changed around it? A new job, a new grandchild, a move to a noisier house: those move the recommendation far more than a new chip does.

- Your audiogram. Degree and shape of loss rule out options before anyone discusses a brand.
- Where you struggle. A quiet home and a loud job point to different devices.
- What you connect to. Phones, televisions, and meeting software all matter here.
- Your hands and your eyes. Dexterity and vision decide style more often than people expect, and scheduling a hearing test is where that gets sorted out.
Only after those four does the conversation reach a manufacturer name. That is the right order, and it is why a spec comparison read online rarely predicts what you walk out with.
